12 Steps to a lifetime in recovery… No thanks…

12 steps to hell

Seems to me there are sure are a lot of you ‘in recovery’ or ‘recovering…’

It would appear to take a while… Just how long exactly does it last??? You gonna be there long???

Recovery as John Flaherty mentions in his ground breaking new book Addiction Unplugged shows you how to transcend your recovery and get on with living… Living in the now that is. A great read and comforting to the wary quitter also. I advice all my clients to read this book when they decide to quit their addiction(s)… read more about the book here… Addiction Unplugged – How to be free.

When will I be recovered… Answered… was a topic I wrote about yesterday, (link) seems I must have hit a nerve as one of my clients came back to me:

… for what its worth, the 12 step trad programmes are outdated crap, i hated every minute of my time in aa (5 months). I found the people to be sanctimonious  and also, if you have to go to a meeting every night and yip on about your addiction, you may as well be at home indulging a very close friend of mine  knew that, he was a dreadful addict as you know, i reckon if he had the right support and no preaching he may have been ok…’ Client BV

Luckily my client and I are now in good shape, the same can’t be said for her friend whom she lost, I’m sorry to say.

The advice is this… Transcend your in-recovery / recovery period, grab a hold of some new age thinking… get a sample of that book and start living in the now… No more persecution-recovery living. Go free. For those of you in the know… Keep meditating twice a day 🙂 Meditation – The highest high for ex-addicts.

When will I be recovered… Answered…

recovering

Quit Day 1st January 2016

Here we go, needs answering this one…

You’ll be recovered when you throw out this mindset obsession of being ‘in recovery,’ being ‘in recovery’ was the status of acceptance handed to you by everyone else. Factually speaking we’ve only just stepped out of the dark ages of therapy for people who are unfortunate enough to be ill or ‘in addiction’ as everyone else calls it…

In comparison to ages in time welcome to the post dinosaur age!!! Great isn’t it… Yep, far better than the previous age when stigma was high, going to jail was likely, persecuting yourself in group therapy was a likely pastime. OK, ok we’ve only just left the really dark ages… Welcome to the fairly dark ages of understanding and compassion etc.

New thinking is here, a mental shift waiting for laws to be changed, help to be more readily accepted and dispensed. Don’t worry about it, its coming, plenty of people like me pushing this ‘end of recovery’ thing along… with lots of hard evidence too.

You’ll be out of recovery when you’ve changed your lifestyle, fitness levels and diet… when you’ve not bothered with that demon for give or take 3 months, that demon who used to own you .. when clarity comes in where painful mental chatter once was (it does go)… when you’ve turned down a drink or a hit several times just, to say ‘i’m driving this vehicle’… when you’ve issued apologies where they we’re needed… with conviction.. if you’ve took on some meditation or mindfulness and felt its guaranteed effects of contentment… when all this has led to you rediscovering old pastimes, hobbies and things you once loved…

THEN YOU’RE THERE..

It’s quantifiable.. It can be put in a list and achieved. I achieved it. From then forward you have to do the following a few times; like anything you need to learn of importance;  you replace all referencing of ‘in recovery’ to ‘recovered’ and you remember that its still a dark age for addicts.. So dark with stigma still isn’t it.. the word ‘addict.’ 😦 The World will catch up eventually.

Control your mind… It’s been controlling you for long enough… Finish the list and be ‘recovered.’

I start at the end..

Quit on January 1st 2016…

Stop spinning in a circle of; trauma, use, abuse then more trauma.

When will I be recovered… Answered…

Guilt… and Addiction… Quit Day Preparation… 37 Days to go…

It's time to quit

Quit Day 1st January 2016

Hand in hand bed fellows… Rarely separated… Guilt and Addiction.

Ask any recovered addict that wasn’t stuck in persecution group recovery therapy (poor souls) … ask them their thoughts on guilt… the past… all the things they’ve done etc.. Highly likely they might wince… Take a breath.

Generally speaking though a ‘recovered’ status, virtual badge holder comes with an outlook that allows them to look back, to revisit.

Just like you though and indeed as I once was, when, in the throws of considering quitting or at the 21st quit attempt… They had problems with guilt… regret… loss.. bereavement.. bereavement of things, times, mainly living people… You know exactly what I’m talking about.

Guilt, loss and the rest of the above will seriously put one on your back like a 10 ton load… It’s what masks your pain when coke / crack is used as a painkiller instead of a ‘lifter’ to your occasional weekend evening. When use becomes abuse… less getting high is going on…  its more about getting low with that; guilt, loss, regret stuff.

We are moving the fuck on from January 1st 2016… Leave that yesterday stuff where it is.. with the decision  to quit… make some apologies from the heart… confide only in unconditional supporters of you Not got any? I’m one, so there you’re not alone… understand… WE ALL did things we now regret, some huge things (personally) .. like yesterday leave tomorrow where that is too…  do some little things for yourself but preferably for others… Get little tiny milestones of accomplishment and be in the ‘now.’ Take a look at meditation.. It gets you ‘high.’

Make it count January 1st 2016+ it’s holding you back.. It held me back. If you’re carrying suitcases of that aforementioned dark shit above then take this as a confirmation from one who knows. You will be set free from that pain you mask by quitting. The rewards are big for long distance quitters.

Stop spinning in a circle of; trauma, use, abuse then more trauma. Let me tell you… make those apologies where necessary, tell someone who cares what you’re doing, accomplish a few things… You’ll feel better… You’ll be exorcising some of that guilt before you’ve quit.

GET ON BOARD, WE’RE GOING TO SLAY DEMONS.
